Report Car Accidents

PLEASE REPORT ROAD ACCIDENTS IN THE VILLAGE — EVEN MINOR ONES!

Our village sees a steady stream of bumps, scrapes, broken door mirrors, and minor accidents, especially on the B1004.

Because most don’t involve injuries or the Police, they aren’t recorded anywhere, so the official statistics don’t show the true scale of incidents.

This matters, because when we raise concerns about speeding or respond to planning applications for new housing, the Highways Authority will say the high street is ‘safe’ and that additional traffic won’t increase the risks — simply because that’s what the official records show. We all know the reality is very different.

Door mirrors and side scrapes are especially common, and in many cases the offending driver doesn’t stop. Technically this is classed as failing to stop at an accident — a more serious offence — and a reminder that the Highway Code applies to all road users at all times.

To help build an accurate picture, please report ALL such collisions, whether you’re involved or a witness. It takes just a few minutes and helps strengthen the case for safety improvements and a lower speed limit.

Important: Reporting does not trigger police action unless someone is injured or a traffic offence is suspected. It simply records the incident for data purposes.

Thank you — every report helps.
